To be wise about health is to recognise that we have spiritual, mental, emotional, social and physical needs which when they are harmonized leads to greater energy, peace and happiness in our life. The soul and body, spiritual and physical or our inner and outer beings are in a dynamic reciprocal relationship or interconnectedness within us. Without acknowledging their roles, functions and proper relationship in our life, tremendous strain is put on our system, as other aspects have to compensate.
The biggest factor in ill health is neglect. Whether on the individual or society level, neglecting our real needs has the biggest impact. Whether its nutrition, meaningful human contact, fresh water, unpolluted air or any number of the following elements disregarding or ignoring them sooner or later has an impact on our well being. Just like disregarding a warning sign on a cliff will not lessen the impact of gravity at the bottom of the fall. The opposite of neglect is attention. By displaying the breadth of elements I am trying to bring to your conscious attention what your unconscious especially through your autonomic nervous system is doing all the time. That way it is easier to join the dots to get a clearer picture of your own pattern or situation, and therefore improve it more comfortably. I hope it stimulates some ahha moments or insights for you. Small aware steps are powerful, much more effective than blind leaps. When we can acknowledge the contribution of each element it is easier to function in an integrated, harmonious way.
